I completed my PhD in Analytical Biochemistry at the University of Sussex in 2014, where I investigated and studied the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of both Alzheimer and Parkinson’s diseases. The wide range of chemical, biochemical and biophysical techniques and the diverse research expertise I gained during my PhD helped me get a Postdoctoral research fellow at University of Sussex, which is funded by TauRX, a pharmaceutical company. I have over 10 years experience working in the field of neurodegeneration, my research uses a combination of many Biochemical and Biophysical techniques to study amyloid fibrils formation and their structure, and also investigate the inhibition of protein assembly using small molecules as a therapy strategy for neurodegenerative diseases . During my time in University of Sussex, I have supervised many undergraduate, MSc and PhD students, as well as participated in several public engagement activities to promote public understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. Importantly, some of these activities aim to enhance the visibility and participation of Women in Science, for example, Soapbox event in Brighton, UK. I have been invited as a peer reviewer for many international journals including Nature Communications, Journal of Clinical Medicine, PLOS ONE, and Journal of Molecular biology. I am a member of many national and international scientific societies and organisations including Royal Society of Biology (RSB) UK, Alzheimer’s society UK, Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS).
